Getting Started

Installation of Module Viscarousel

You have to install Viscarousel by using the Joomla! Extension Manager before you can use it.

Go to the Administration Panel of your Joomla! installation and click the top menu item "Extensions" and then the "Extension Manager" submenu. Choose the tab "Upload Package File", click the "Browse" button and browse to the installation package (mod_viscarousel.zip). After you have selected the installtion package file, click the "Uplaod & Install" button, it install the module.

Module Manager Setting (Extensions: Modules)

Go to the Administration Panel of your Joomla! installation and click the top menu item "Extensions" and then the "Module Manager" submenu. The first carousel module was already created during the installation process and you can use it at once. You can use the "Select Type" filter (on the left hand side) if you want to filter for modules of type Viscarousel.

Create a new carousel module

If you want to create a new carousel module just click the "New" button im the Module Manager and select the module type "Viscarousel" from the list, that is displayed after, you have clicked the button.

Basic Module Settings

Before you start selecting items for the carousel you have to decide whether you want to create an image carousel or an article carousel (from the select list). Depending on that selection the module will provide you either with the Joomla! Media Manager to select images or the Joomla! Article Manager to select articles as carousel items. Once you have selected the first carousel item you cannot change this basic setting (unless you remove the items first).

Control the Intervall = Carousel Speed

The option "Interval" controls how long an item is displayed before the next item slides in automatically. Please insert a time, if you want to change the default value of 5000. Time unit is milliseconds; so a value of 2000 matches 2 seconds. If you set this option to 0, the carousel will not rotate automatically. Please don't confuse this option with the option Autostart, which only prevent the carousel from starting automoatically.

Autostart

Disable the option Autostart, if you want to prevent the carousel from starting automatically. Most probably you want to allow the user to start the carousel manually in this case by providing them with a Play/Pause-Button. Once the carousel is started it will cycle with the speed defined in the "Intervall" option.

Play/Pause Button

Enable the option Play/Pause-Button to provide users with an additional control to start or stop the carousel. Depending on the carousel state (cycling or stopped) users will see a play or a pause button and can control the carousel behaviour individually.

Show Indicators

Indicators are a line of dots, containing one dot for each item. The dot representing the active item is highlighted. Notice: A click on an indicator will start the carousel. This is the default behavior implemented by Bootstrap. Notce: If the option "Interval" is set to 0, this will prevent the carousel from cycling. This holds even if a user clicks on an indicator.

Show Controls

The Bootstrap carousel comes with two big arrows "Left" and "Right", that provides users with an option to switch manually to the previous/next item. If you don't want the controls to be displayed, enable this option.
