Thank you for your patience and informative reply.

Your documentation is excellent in the hover panels. I started to do as you suggest without asking. But I did not know how changing the location of the saved image might affect other parts of the component. Long hard experience has taught me that it is better to ask dumb questions than to do dumb things.

I did notice that Visforms created a Visforms folder in the Joomla Media image directory but does not populate it. I assume making the changes you suggest above will populate that folder with uploaded images. Is that correct?

One of the problems with images is that it is hard to keep image and caption together. Is it possible to use a text field on the form to rename the image before saving it? It would be helpful if the saved image was named "John Doe.jpg" instead of something the camera generated.

I know you can't be all things to all people and that this might be beyond the scope of Visforms.

Hi,

thanks for your response about the documentation in the hover panels. I really put a lot of time into the documentations, try to keep them up to date... I'm sorry, that there are some misspellings and that I'm not a native speaker, so the wording might sometimes be wrong.

You are correct, that the Visforms installation creates a Visforms folder in the Joomla! Media image directory. Visforms itself uses this folder (by creating a subfolder) as a backup folder for uploaded files on some special occations, so usually when you start it is empty. You could use this folder, but a backdrop is, that Visfoorms will also delete this folder, when you unistall Visforms.

Many components leave residue, when you uninstall them. Visforms does not. If you uninstall Visforms it will be removed completely (all folder it has created during the installation, all Visforms related tables in the database). This is, because every Visforms installation package also works as update, so the only reason, why you would have to uninstall Visforms is, that you really do no longer want to use it and in this case (that is my opion) it is correct to remove everything completely.

It is always good to know, which feature Visforms users are missing. I think, that having control over the uploaded file name, is actually an interesting feature. I will put it on the feature request list, but I cannot promise 100% that I will implement something like that or when. But I will take a look into it.

Regards,
Aicha

Your English is excellent, better than many native speakers and certainly better than my German. (I had a year of German some 50 years ago but never practiced it. About all I remember is to capitalize all nouns and that a vacuum cleaner is a Staubsauger) The instructions are clear.

Thanks for letting me know that the auto-created Visforms folder is used by Visforms and might be deleted under certain conditions. I will set up another folder for my uploaded images.

My image name question is probably out of place here. My opinion, after thinking about it, is that it should NOT be part of the Forms extension. It would add complexity when simplicity is first priority.

The basic problem with images and captions is that they are two different file types. Keeping them together requires a database and query. Outside the database, there is no connection. I think the solution will come using exif data within the image file so that the image and description is contained in one file.

Changing the uploaded file name would not solve this problem. It would just make it easier to resolve manually. Ignore me and keep it simple.

Cordially,
jch
